Hattie Irene Griffith, 97 of Surveyor, passed away peacefully May 14, 2016. Hattie was born in Lester, WV on March 5, 1919. Hattie is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Henderson Payton Griffith. She had several five generation chains in the family. She spent her days sewing and being cared for by her daughters, Martha, Margaret, Dorothy and Josie. Hattie loved everyone who entered her door and was loved by everyone she met. Hattie is survived by daughters, Josie McCarren, Marie Cunningham, Margaret Mulhern Ellen Thompson, Dorothy and husband Pete Barker, Phyllis and husband Windy Allen, Martha Clark and Wilma Barnett; sons, Ray Griffith, Frank Griffith, Tommy Griffith, Bobby and wife Sue Griffith, Larry and wife Tracy Griffith and Dale Griffith; fifty grandchildren and eighty great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 with Pastor Jeffery Perdue officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may gather with the family Wednesday from 11-1 PM at the funeral home.
