I was stationed with Gene at Grissom AFB, 305th Air Refueling Wing, Quality Assurance, he was an inspector for Avionics and I was an inspector for the Fabrication Flight. We became good friends as well as our family’s, spent a lot of family time together. Gene was a golfer as everyone know, he was the best golfer I ever met and he helped me with my game the best he could and we had a blast on the links. The pictures you see in his golf attire are the way I will always remember him. I’ll never forget one time we were playing the base course at Grissom and we were playing with another guy named Cecil we worked with in Q.A., I drove my first shot off the fairway and I was still sitting pretty good, needed to hit my second shot over some rough field like terrain and I would have been back on the fairway, Cecil and Gene stood behind me and I took my shot with a 3 wood and I hit the ball perfect, made the sweetest ting sound and that ball would have traveled 250 yards easy except for this little tree in the middle of this field, only about two inches in diameter, I hit this tree square and that ball came strait back at me and we all had to dive out of the way, I remember looking behind me and Gene and Cecil had their backs turned to me to hide their laughter from me but there shoulders were going up and down, but I appreciated the effort. We had so many good times on and off the course, Genes love was his family, and friends and golf. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about him sine I heard he was with our lord 🙏🙏🙏
