Harry's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Joseph Sinco, 80, who left this world on December 28, 2023. For over five years, Harry fought gallantly and with an encouraging strength in his battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Kelly) Sinco; three children and their spouses: Melissa (Sinco) and her husband Matthew Stalker; Lawrence and his wife Erin (Griguts) Sinco; and Stephanie (Sinco) and her husband Craig Sharp; and seven grandchildren; Ruby, Vera, & Jack Stalker, Luke, Emma & Max Sinco, and Isaac Sharp. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Sinco of Mountaintop.

Harry was born in 1943 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania to his parents, the late Michael Senczakowicz (Sinco) and Ruth Kozlowski Senczakowicz (Sinco). After graduating from Nanticoke High School in 1962, he attended John Carroll University where he played football. After a neck injury ended his football career prematurely, he transferred to Bloomsburg University where he earned a bachelor’s degree, followed by a master’s degree in speech pathology. Harry then attended Marywood University, where he earned an educational specialist’s degree in school psychology. Later in his career, he earned a doctorate degree in education.

Harry worked as a school psychologist for the Northeast Educational Intermediate Unit for approximately 30 years before retiring. He returned from retirement to work for the Scranton School District for another 10 years. He was a passionate advocate for children and adults with disabilities, devoting his professional career and personal time to serving those in need.

Harry’s strong faith in Jesus Christ was the largest part of his life. He was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Parish, in Jermyn, Pennsylvania for roughly 15 years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus during that period. Harry often ended conversations with “Keep the Faith.” He was a very strong witness of God’s grace and peace here on earth.

Perhaps his greatest accomplishment of all was the love that he had for his grandchildren. They brought so much joy to his life, and he was their greatest champion. As stated by Harry’s youngest grandchild Isaac, “He was more than just my Pop, he was my friend.“

Harry touched the lives of so very many people and will be missed by all! In lieu of flowers, Harry requested that donations be made in his honor to the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary 543 Springfield Ave. Summit, NJ 07901 or the Wayne Memorial Hospice Organization 601 Park Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.

Harry was laid to eternal rest at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on Tuesday, January 16th at 11:30 AM, which  included a Catholic Mass, Committal Service, and reception. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale. A service will also be held this summer at St. Rose of Lima Parish (Carbondale, PA) on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10 AM.
