Harold's obituary

Harold Blaine Vance, 78, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away

peacefully at Pikes Peak Hospice Inpatient care center surrounded by his loving

family and friends on January 11, 2026, following a courageous battle with

cancer.

Born on September 20, 1947, in Ogden, Utah, Harold was the son of the

late Reverand Robert and Loraine Vance. He graduated from Bonneville High

School in 1965 in Ogden, Utah. He spent time at Biola College before being

drafted to the United States Navy in 1967 where he served for 4 years spending

time in California, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, and Vietnam. After being

honorably discharged Harold completed his degree in History and English at

Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. Harold then attended Denver Seminary

earning his Master of Divinity Degree in 1979. He spent almost 42 years in

ministry as Head Pastor of First Baptist Church of Vona, Mountain View Baptist

Church, and First Baptist Church in Salida. Harold inspired thousands of people

with his passion for Jesus and his love for people.

Harold married Marcia McDowell on June 26, 1971. Together they raised

two children and enjoyed 54 years of adventure, love, and ministry. Harold was

an avid cook, writer, and fisherman. He loved to work on cars and spend time

with family. Harold had a heart for youth. He volunteered by leading church youth

groups, in schools as Dr. Seuss, and reading stories during the Christmas

season to kids in the church.

He is survived by his wife Marica Vance (Colorado Springs), his son John

Vance (Colorado Springs), his grandchildren Luke Vance (Tara Vance) and

Brandon Vance (Mari Vance) (Colorado Springs), his sisters Patty Petrovich

(Andy Petrovich) (Oregon) and Sherri Vance (Utah) and many nieces, nephews,

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Timothy Vance and his

brother Paul Vance.

A funeral will be held for Harold at 10 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026,

at Grace Church in Salida, Colorado. There will be a viewing at 9 AM before the

service. Following the service, a grave-side service will be held at Fairview

Cemetery at 12 PM where Harold will be laid to reset beside his son Timothy.

In lieu of flowers, there will be a website for donations to Harold’s wife,

Marcia Vance, for after death expenses.

Harold’s big heart, passion for people, and love for Jesus touched the

lives of many. He will be deeply missed by his family, many friends, and all who
