Harold's obituary

With profound sadness, we remember the life of Mr. Harold G. Mattoon who was born on October 21, 1937, and passed away on June 19, 2023. Harold was an extraordinary man, known for his loving, witty, brilliant, creative, honorable, admirable, charismatic, amiable, adventurous, and compassionate personality.

Harold was the beloved husband to Patricia Mattoon, whom he married in 1958. He was a proud and loving father to his sons; Greg, Scott, and Ken Mattoon. Harold was the cherished grandfather to his grandchildren; Jason, Megan, Joey, Erik, Mitch, Kristin, Ryan and Mark Mattoon.

He will forever be remembered for his love, kindness, strength, and wisdom that will live on through his family. Harold was deeply loved by his family, friends, and anyone who had the humble pleasure of knowing him. His witty humor and exemplary charisma will be greatly missed.

Harold was born and raised in Lynwood, California, where he graduated from Lynwood High School in 1955. He went on to earn an Associate of Arts from Compton College in 1957, and a Bachelor of Arts from Cal State Long Beach in 1960. After his studies, Harold began working for the City of Lynwood Parks and Recreation in 1955 and later was promoted to Director in 1982, until his retirement in 1992. His noteworthy service, dedication, and creativity had a lasting impact on the community, truly making him a figure of admirable character.

Harold moved to La Palma, CA in 1971, where he spent his golden years amidst the love of his growing family, welcoming grandchildren and great-grandchildren into the world.

Harold instructed his family and loved ones that "Love is best spoken and shown," stressing the importance of overcoming challenges with strength, and conveying the value of family. His legacy lies in the lessons he left behind and his great accomplishments as a husband, father, grandfather, and Director of Parks and Recreation.

Harold was more than just an ordinary man, he was a beacon of love, kindness, strength, and knowledge that will remain aglow in the hearts of those he left behind. His memory will forever serve as a reminder of an extraordinarily remarkable life lived with purpose and immense love.
