Harmon's obituary
Harmon was born January 4th, 1942 in Oak Hill, West Virginia. He spent most of his early years in Beckley, WV and was very proud of his early scouting accomplishments, earning two Eagle Scout awards back when it was still possible to do so. It was during this time that Harmon became interested in, and received his amateur radio license. This was an interest he pursed for the rest of his life. He was the 1958 National Science Fair winner his senior year at Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia.
Harmon worked his way through college at Bluefield State University in West Virginia, while working at Rockwell International in their NASA programs and raising two sons. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and later moved to High Point, North Carolina to work for Hewlett Packard. He retired from Hewlett Packard in 1997 after 23 years of service, serving as a sales engineer and later as regional director.
Harmon was very active in sailing in Eastern NC and he and Lou Ann spent much of their spare time and summers on their sailboat boat “Cool Change” in Oriental, NC. Later, Harmon and Lou Ann moved to South Carolina to be near the ocean and to follow their love of the beach. Their love of sailing and the ocean has been passed down to the next generation and “Cool Change” can still be seen sailing the NC coast.
Harmon is survived by his wife of 59 years Lou Ann Lushbaugh, sons, Greg Lushbaugh and wife Liu, Devin Lushbaugh and his wife Christi and granddaughter Zoe Lushbaugh. He is also survived by his brother, Kerry Lushbaugh, his sister, Kay Craig and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family also would like to thank the caring staff at Compass Acute Rehab in Conway, SC who have cared for Harmon over the past several years. The family would also like to thank his special friends from Hewlett Packard, their continued friendship meant the world to him.
There will be a memorial service planned in the future. Donations can be made in his honor to Neuse River Keepers at https://soundrivers.org/donat… or to cureCADASIL at https://curecadasil.org/donat….
