Gwen's obituary
Gwendolyn Feaster Trautwein (Gwen)
RIP, Sunday, July 7, 2024
Gwendolyn Feaster (Gwen) Trautwein of Alpharetta, GA passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 7, 2024. She was just 2 months shy of her 91st birthday. Gwen was born on September 12, 1933, to David and Grace Feaster of Philadelphia. She was an only child.
Gwen’s husband, Jack Trautwein preceded her in death, just three months before. Gwen is survived by her three children, Grace Kiely Dunn, John Trautwein Jr, and David Trautwein, along with her 11 grandchildren who loved their “Nanny” with all their hearts; Taylor Kiely Chebli, Jack Dunn, David Dunn, Faith Dunn, Will Trautwein (RIP, 2010), Tommy Trautwein, Michael Trautwein, Holyn Trautwein, Wyatt Trautwein, Josie Trautwein and Caden Trautwein.
Gwen graduated from Germantown High School in Germantown, PA in 1951. She was 2nd in her class and she was rewarded with an academic scholarship to attended Chestnut Hill College (Chestnut Hill, PA) where she earned her degree in English literature in 1955. Gwen went on to be a high school teacher in the Philadelphia area. In addition to her teaching, she was heavily involved with the theater and drama productions each year! It was during this time when she met her husband Jack Trautwein in Ocean City, NJ. They were married in 1958.
Gwen and Jack lived in the Philadelphia area where they had two children (Grace and John) before moving to Peabody MA in 1964. Their third child (David) was born during their stay in MA and in 1967 they moved to Barrington IL, a suburb of Chicago. Gwen, who loved life to the fullest, took up figure skating and soon became a figure skating instructor for “Tiny Tots” (kids under 10 years old). “Miss Gwen” was loved dearly by all her students. She was also a member of the elite “Purple Ladies” of the “Northbrook on Ice” ice skating shows for many years, and was the choreographer of the “tiny tot” performances as well.
The Trautwein’s remained in Barrington for over 30 years before retiring to Sanibel, FL where they enjoyed a wonderful retirement with so many friends and were always entertaining their family and friends year after year. Gwen was an avid tennis & golf player in both Florida and Georgia and was always known for being “that teammate” that brought joy and hope to everyone. In 2019, Jack and Gwen moved to Alpharetta GA to be closer to family. Gwen was known for her incredible love of life, her beautiful smile and positive outlook no matter what. She was constantly teaching her family to always “love the most.” She achieved a dream when she “danced at her granddaughter Taylor’s wedding” just 9 months before she passed.
The life of any room (or party) she entered; Gwen had an army of friends who she loved dearly. But it was her commitment to her family that defined her. Just days before she passed, she was with her entire family who were in town to attend her husbands’ funeral. She was Blessed to be able to tell them she loved them and hear how much they loved her.
Funeral Services for Gwen will be held in the Atlanta area later in the year. The Trautwein family will share details as they come.
