Gus C. Mantas, of Des Plaines, IL, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Perdhikóvrisi, Arkadia, Greece, he was the beloved husband of the late Litsa (nee Ardamis). Loving father of Chris (Effie), Van (Melissa), and Jim (Connie). Cherished grandfather of Constantine, Billy, Dean, Nicholas, and Konstantino. Dear brother of John (Stella) Mantas, Georgia (John) Kyriazis, and Vaso (Peter) Diamond, and the late Jim (Katina) Mantas, Nick (Judith) Mantas, Eleftheria, Evanthia, and Athena. He was also a treasured brother-in-law to Pam (the late Laki) Kouratos, and the late Effie and Marianna (Kyriakos) Pontikes.

Gus will be fondly remembered by many relatives and friends in both the United States and Greece. Gus was a dedicated bartender who spent over four decades at Gene & Georgetti’s Steak House in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. He truly loved what he did, and it showed in every interaction. For Gus, bartending was more than a profession—it was a calling. He took pride in his work, found joy in connecting with people, and built lasting relationships with generations of patrons. His passion for the job and the people he served was at the heart of everything he did.
