Gurmit's obituary
With profound sadness we wish to share the news that beloved Gurmit Kaur ji passed into eternity at 5:30am on Sunday 3rd March 2024. We are all reflecting on her beautiful life. We loved her, and will never forget her.
Gurmit Ji received Gyan (the Knowledge of God) in the period of Satguru Baba Avtar Singh Ji, whilst in Hoshiapur, India. Her father was Gianni Chanan Singh Ji, who was the first Gyan Parcharak in the UK, in the 1960's, travelling the country to share the experience of 'Formless Nirankar'. Gurmit Ji's mother was Bibi Amar Kaur Ji, who served selflessly for many decades as saints visited the home, including Shahenshah Ji, who stayed with the family for some 2 weeks in their Spa Wood Top residence in Huddersfield, UK. Shahenshah Ji remarked the views from the home were not dissimilar to Mussoorie and Koh Murree, hill stations in India and Pakistan.
Gurmit Ji follows the passing of her older siblings, Gurprakash Singh Ji, Parkash Kaur Ji and Harjinder Singh Ji. She is survived by younger siblings, Birjinder (Johnny) Singh Ji, Santokh (Harry) Singh Ji, Avtar (Tony) Singh Ji and her cousin brothers Avtar Singh Ji and Joginder Walia Ji.
Her husband, Charanjit Singh Ji, came into her life in 1970. Satguru Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji and Rajmata Kulwant Kaur Ji arranged the marriage, presided over the wedding ceremonies and then acted as parents when giving the bride away. The couple then moved to the UK and had three sons, followed by three daughter in laws Gurdeep/Menka, Gurpreet/Amrit and Khushbir/Ahmareen. The sons are happily married, bringing four grandchildren into Gurmit's life, namely Diya, Avani, Anya and Ishaan. She loved them all, and was much loved by them in return.
Gurmit Ji was an empowered woman, running a successful photography business with multiple studios across Birmingham, alongside her husband, brother in law Paramjit Ji and sister in law Narinder Ji. Together they built secure foundations for their children, grandchildren niece and nephew to thrive. Through their collective efforts, many extended family members overseas were supported to become financially stable.
Most significant of all, Gurmit Ji made sure her children developed deep associations with the Sant Nirankari faith, through which they continue to live and breathe in the awareness of their Maker, the Formless All-Pervading. Gurmit Ji knew this Truth intimately, and enjoyed singing of it at every opportunity. She was one of the very first crop of melodious singers, who helped establish the Sant Nirankari Mission in the UK - all with Grace, all with Grace. She would travel across the country with Gianni Chanan Singh Ji in the 1960's and 1970's, attending congregations in various homes and enlightening visitors as they went. Each year she never failed to attend the large scale 'Samagams' in Delhi, to gain 'darshan' (the spiritual presence) of her Guru.
Gurmit Ji merged finally with her Maker on 3rd March 2024 just 7 days short of her 71st Birthday. Leaving behind her mortal coil, Gurmit Ji is now one with the All-Pervading. She will continue to bless all of us, through the Oneness that animates the entire universe. As we say, she is now 'Sarav-Viapakh', or all around us and never apart from us.
Gurmit Ji, as your family, we love you - and will always love you. Please overlook our failings, of which there are many, and accept our heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful life you gave us. We will never be the same without you, but know you will continue to inspire us to be better versions of ourselves.
