Gretchen's obituary
On November 6th, 2023, Gretchen L. Zeltner, affectionately known as GiGi by her beloved grandchildren, peacefully passed away, surrounded by her loving husband and children, after displaying unwavering determination, faith, and grace throughout her battle with ovarian cancer.
Gretchen was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and her family's military journey led them to Virginia, where she developed a profound love for her community and family, exemplifying a life dedicated to her passions and commitments.
A devout participant in Bible study, Gretchen's faith brought her close to remarkable individuals in her faith community.
Gretchen's joyful spirit resonated most when she cheered on her grandchildren during baseball games, spent time with dogs and horses, and celebrated holidays, beach vacations, and trips to Smith Mountain Lake with her family.
Her creative spirit shone through her passion for design, leaving an indelible mark on the world of aesthetics. Gretchen had a unique ability to make every room she entered more beautiful, whether through her design expertise or simply her presence.
Her commitment to giving back was evident as she volunteered as a tutor for underprivileged children, positively impacting their lives.
Above all, Gretchen epitomized a family woman. Her actions were driven by her unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She and her husband, John, celebrated 37 years of marriage in April, creating a beautiful life together.
Gretchen was a cherished mother to her children, Jack (Karleigh) and Brooke, and her role as a grandmother, or GiGi, to Carson, Cameron, Finley, Landon, and Luke brought immeasurable joy and love to her life. She always cherished her family and shared her wisdom.
Gretchen is preceded in death by her mother, Ann, and is survived by her beloved father, Gerhard Jacobson, and her siblings, Marie (Robert) and Paul (Gail) as well as her nieces and nephews.
Having lived 53 years in Northern, Virginia Gretchen leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strength, a legacy that will be forever cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her. While her physical presence will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of sharing her life's journey.
