Gregory's obituary

Gregory Thomas Smith, age 63, of Wilton Manors, Florida, passed away on April 17, 2025, in Seattle, Washington, following a prolonged illness.

He is survived by his lawfully wedded and devoted spouse of ten years, Efendy Sirait, with whom he shared a home in Wilton Manors; his mother, Dorothy “Dottie” J. Smith of Bainbridge Island, Washington; and his sister, Melinda “Lindy” A. Henshaw of Poulsbo, Washington.

Greg was a proud member of the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (M.E.B.A.) and served as Chief Engineer for Overseas Houston. His distinguished maritime career spanned ferry and cargo transportation companies across Florida, Washington, and California, including work with Matson. His commitment to engineering excellence and safety was evident throughout his professional life.

Outside of work, Greg embraced life with a spirit of adventure. He was an avid scuba diver and licensed small plane pilot from a young age. He and Efendy shared a deep love of travel, exploring destinations together including Portugal, Paris, the Caribbean, and Canada—creating memories that reflected their strong bond and partnership.

Greg and Efendy built their life together in Florida, where they created a home filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose. Greg often spoke of Efendy as the great love of his life and valued the strength of their marriage deeply.

He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, unwavering professional dedication, and the deep affection he held for those closest to him.

Memorial services have not been planned at this time. Condolences may be sent to the family home at 2309 NE 18th Ave, Wilton Manors, FL 33305-2423, or to his mother at P.O. Box 4746, Rolling Bay, WA 98061.
