Gregory's obituary

"Doctor T." died peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point, Indiana with family at his side. He was born in Jamaica/Long Island, New York. He attended Washington Square College/New York University where he also lettered in varsity basketball. He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville in 1958. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Lee (Emily R.) Gryb. In 1961, he completed his pediatric residency in Chicago. Greg and Lee moved to Flossmoor, Illinois and he practiced pediatrics in Homewood, Illinois for more than 50 years.

He was a voracious reader and loved history and music genres ranging from classical to jazz to Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles. He devoured college basketball and was a rabid Louisville Cardinal fan. He loved to play tennis and introduced the game to his wife and children. He would walk miles in the Chicago snow for a bowl of Lee's shrimp scampi. The Peanuts gang was a constant companion in his office waiting room. He was a family man, whose pride in his grandchildren's accomplishments (both athletic and academic) was palpable. He dearly loved each of them: Niko, Gregory, Maggie, Vaughn, Riordan, Maeve, Liam and Jack. Each of them held a special place in his heart.

He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Olga, and brother John.

He is survived by a loving family: his wife, Lee, sons Greg (Rose) and Richard (Denise), daughters Heather Ryan (Todd) and Noel Brigham (Michael), sister Natalie Shellans (Steve), sister-in-law Murielle (John), eight grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless other "children" (patients), whose lives were changed for the better by his steady, loving care.

In lieu of services and flowers, the family asks that you remember him while you listen to Hotel California, cheer on the Cardinals, enjoy an afternoon on the court, savor your favorite pasta, or just indulge the ones you love with your undivided attention.
