Gregory's obituary

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Gregory Kevin Swint is announcing his peaceful passing on October 5, 2021, at the age of 62 years.

Greg is survived by his wife of 16 years, Lisa Lynn Swint; children: Courtney Marie Swint (partner Chase Gaines) and Joe Ryan Swint (spouse Gabi Zepeda Swint); grandchildren: Chandler Warren, Lindsay Taylor, Jaden Swint, Jaxten Swint and Given Swint; brother: Brian Swint (wife Jeanie Swint), Mother: Jerri Ruth Mathis, Father: Joe Dan Swint,  Stepmother: Martha J. Swint, along with numerous relatives and friends. He is preceded by Sister: Sharon Swint Morrow (Husband Walter Morrow) and Stepfather:  Robert (Bob) Lee Mathis.

Greg was born in Wharton, TX, but grew up in Angleton, TX, attending Angleton High School until 1977.  In his senior year, he tried out for the Texas All-State Choir and won 1st Chair Tenor.  Throughout the years Greg continued to pursue his love for music by writing songs and playing in local bands in Brazoria County, TX.

In 1986, he and his family moved to California where he became the Music Minister for Calvary Baptist Church.  Several years later, he was approached by a producer and moved his family to Nashville, TN, where he became a demo singer and staff songwriter.  He was a successful songwriter in the 1990's, landing the No. 1 Hit Single "LOVE A LITTLE STRONGER," recorded by Diamond Rio. He also had several songs recorded by other country artists including Neal McCoy and John Berry.

After his success in Nashville, Greg moved back to Texas where he attended Lee College, graduating and acquiring his Commercial Driver's License. In 2005, Greg met his soon-to-be wife and they were married on January 20, 2006.  Throughout their marriage, Greg was invited to give testimony of God's goodness in his life and sing at numerous churches around Texas.  Finally, he settled into a Truck Driving Position with Patterson UTI and began hauling heavy oil field equipment in West Texas.

On August 23, 2021, Greg entered the Annual Texas Troubadour Songwriter's Classic that was judged by the son of Merle Haggard, Marty Haggard.  On September 30, he received an email that he had been selected as one of 5 finalists in the Performance Category and was supposed to have performed on November 6 at the Bosque Arts Center in Clifton, TX., hoping to win Song of The Year.

Greg's beautiful expressions of love and sense of humor would brighten anyone's day. He will be missed beyond measure and forever remembered as a compassionate man who never met a stranger.

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.  For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’   (Matthew 25:34-36)
