Greggory's obituary

Greggory Scott Scholtec, 58, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on October 6, 2021. Gregg was born on October 16, 1962 to Marlys (Dahl) and Frank Scholtec in Golden Valley, Minnesota. After graduating from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa in 1981, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Drake University in 1986.  He was employed at Principal Financial Group in Des Moines for 31 years. In 1991, Gregg married Rebecca (Becky) Wachter, and together they had two children; Emily and Aaron. The couple later divorced.  In 2015, Gregg became a grandfather to grandson Nico, one of the great joys of his life. Gregg's family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Emily and Aaron, and supported them in every way possible. Gregg was also a passionate Minnesota sports fan, and loved attending games and collecting sports memorabilia. He enjoyed playing rec league softball and coaching Aaron's hockey and baseball teams. He loved spending time golfing, drinking beer, laughing, and telling stories with his lifelong friends. Gregg was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his children and grandchild; his sisters Terri Jones, Dawn (Paul) Koester, Sandy Pappas (Neal Gosman), and Patricia Miller; his brother Kimothy Scholtec; and their children and grandchildren. There will be a memorial service on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. at Jamie Hurd Amphitheater in West Des Moines. Bring a lawn chair and whatever you’d like to drink (no hard liquor, no glass bottles) and join us for sandwiches and reminiscing after the service. You’re invited to wear a t-shirt or jersey from one of Gregg’s favorite sports teams (Brian and Todd: NO PACKERS!).
