The Family at the Memorial Service

My dad, Russell Wachter, wanted to share two memories of Gregg. The first one was of the time that Gregg, Dad, and my brother Ray drove Gregg’s “purple car” - as Dad recalled it - down to Anna Maria Island in Florida and then picked up 2-year-old Emily and me at the airport. Dad said “That was the first time I’d been in a car with him and he drove FAST!”
The other time was when the Big 10 tournament was in Chicago; Dad said, “Gregg called me up and said, ‘Let’s go, Russell!’ because he knew that I like Chicago, so he arranged for us to get tickets and off we went. We stayed at the same hotel as some of the players and he was tickled pink about that.”

Gregg, another gentleman, and I had dinner together at a Des Moines restaurant in 1996, then attended a Des Moines Buccaneers hockey game. I remember Gregg being friendly and good-humored. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He was married to my cousin Becky Wachter Scholtec.

The world has lost an incredible life...may you keep Gregg's memory close to your hearts, Emily, Aaron and family.

I got to spend a good deal of time with Gregg in this past year. To call his battle Courageous would be a tremendous understatement. He always had a positive attitude and was determined to beat this terrible disease. It was inspiring. To Aaron and Emily, never doubt your dad's love. You were the most important thing in his life. He will be there for you each and everyday. God bless your family.

Gregg and I worked at Principal together and we were on the same team and worked in the department for a number of years. We became breakfast buddies along with Sara Peterson. Gregg and I played many years of fantasy football. I had the honor of DJing Emily's sweet 16 birthday party. My son Aaron and I went with Gregg and his son Aaron to Iowa Hawkeye football games. Gregg and I went to the Starlight theatre and saw Chicago and Earth Fire and Wind concert in 2015. Gregg and I with friends and family went to the Doobie Brothers Concert at the state fair in August. We spent the past summer going to the great Americana breakfast buffet and watching Aaron work. Gregg was a total family man and I will miss him!

Rest in peace Gregg. It was good to have a fellow Vikings fan in the family! I'll always remember Gregg as a good guy who really loved his family. Hugs to all during this time of loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am one of Nico's aunts and when I met Greg and talked about Nico, his smile lit up. He loved Nico so much and Nico loved him so much. My thoughts and prayers to all of you.

I'm very sorry to hear this news. Hugs to you all. We only met a few times...his "man cave"...and mustache. That's what I remember most. A very nice memory for me. Hugs again.
