Greg's obituary

Gregory Altis Johnson

If you met him, you loved him.

Gregory Altis Johnson passed away unexpectedly at his Pueblo West home on March 25, 2024. He was born in Salina, Kansas, on August 27, 1965, to Altis and Sharon (Walle) Johnson.

Though Greg spent his early years in Kansas, he considered himself a Coloradoan after moving to Greeley while in junior high; he even rooted for the Broncos when they played the Chiefs. Greg graduated from Greeley West High School in 1983 and remained close friends with several of his classmates. His capacity to love was tremendous – family, friends, coworkers, St. Paul parishioners, volleyball parents… he charmed them all and gave from his whole heart.

But Greg poured out his very best love on his wife Kristen and their precious daughters Presley and Joie. Greg waited a long time to find Kris, and he was so thankful for the family and the life they built together – he was living the dream. He spoiled Kris and their girls with his kindness, patience, and excitement; he couldn’t stop beaming when Presley played her cello or when Joie played volleyball. Greg was a beloved husband, a cherished dad, a thoughtful son, a sweet brother, and a good friend.

Greg was happiest taking care of his family, and he worked hard to do that. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado just before his 30 th high school reunion; he went on to receive a master’s degree from Colorado State University. He was proud of his work at American Medical Response and then Pueblo Community Health Center where he was the best IT Director; he truly liked to help others – what a message for his daughters. Greg was a terrific athlete and an avid outdoorsman; camping, hiking, and fishing were his passions, but he could also be found swinging on the golf course, wakeboarding on the lake, or twirling Kris around the dance floor. Greg’s sense of humor was the best, and his family and friends will find comfort in sharing his funny jokes and adventures.

Greg is already missed by his wife Kris and their daughters Presley and Joie. Greg is survived by his dad Altis Johnson, brother Mike (Julie) Johnson, sister Jennifer (Andrew) Holt,mother-in-law Pat Cronk, brother-in-law Drew Michael (Wendy) Cronk, and by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to count. Truthfully, if you met Greg, you loved him.

Greg was preceded in death by his mom Sharon Johnson and his father-in-law Drew Cronk.

Greg will be celebrated with a rosary on Monday, April 1 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul the  Apostle Catholic Church in Pueblo West, with a funeral mass following at 2:00 p.m. Family andfriends will then gather at 952 South Rudioso in Pueblo West to eat, drink, laugh, cry, and tell

stories of Greg. If you are moved to contribute, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul the

Apostle Catholic Church at 1132 West Oro Grande Drive, Pueblo West, Colorado 81007.
