Graeme's obituary
Graeme Philip Murphy, beloved father, partner, son, and friend passed away on February 2, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 38. Graeme was born on April 17, 1985, in Johannesburg, South Africa, and led a life filled with adventure, compassion, and creativity.
Immigrating to British Columbia, Canada, in 1990, and later settling in the Kansas City area in 2001, Graeme embraced new experiences and pursued his passions with zeal. His greatest adventure and accomplishment, however, was becoming a father to his three sons; Grayson (13), Griffin (11), and August (3).
A graduate in Sports Management from the University of Central Missouri, Graeme worked as a franchise owner and corporate race director for "Bodies" Racing Company from 2016 to 2021. The business was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting Graeme to transition back to a career in landscape management.
In 2021, Graeme found love with his partner, Alexces, and they became engaged to be married in 2024.
Graeme is survived by his children, Grayson, Griffin, and August; fiancée, Alexces Bartley; mother, Vanessa, and stepfather, Darrin Bader; sister, Tamlyn Murphy (Josh Clifton), and stepsisters, Dana, Andrea and Emma Bader; nephews Dominik and Vincent Clifton; niece Ariella Bader; and stepmother, Deidre Murphy. He was preceded in death by his father, Colin Murphy.
In his youth, Graeme spent considerable time exploring the wilderness of Vancouver Island, fostering his love for the outdoors and adventure.
From exploring the wilderness to excelling in cricket and basketball, Graeme's passion for sports was evident. He proudly represented British Columbia's national cricket team, made a career of coordinating races and helping others move their bodies, and shared his love for basketball by coaching his sons' teams.
Graeme's love for the outdoors and athleticism was matched only by his creativity and artistic talents. His creative spirit brought beauty to the world around him. Friends and family remember him for his adventurous nature, caring demeanor, thoughtfulness, and his role as a treasured friend.
His generosity extended beyond his lifetime, as he was an organ donor, providing hope and life to four individuals through the donation of his heart, liver, and kidneys.
A celebration of Graeme's life will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Swope Park Bandstand, located next to the Southeast Community Center at 4201 E 63rd St, Kansas City, MO 64130.
Graeme's adventurous spirit, athletic prowess, creative talents, caring nature, and thoughtful presence will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
