OBITUARY FOR GRACE ELIZABETH PATTERSON LENZ

Grace went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 21, 2025

Grace was born on April 16, 1931. She was preceded in death by parents Ross William Patterson and Ruby Alice Grace Patterson and an older sister, Alice Grace was born in Travis County west of Austin, Texas.

Grace is survived by sons, Patrick Alan Lenz of Waldport, Oregon and Richard Adam Lenz of Georgetown, Texas, and grandsons Matthew Allen Lenz and Joshua Adam Lenz, both of Georgetown, Texas.  Grace is also survived by three siblings; Jerry Lee Burklund of Kyle, Texas; Stephen R. Patterson of New Braunfels, Texas; and Rodney M. Patterson of Fort Worth, Texas.  Grace attended Brewton Springs School, Bee Cave School, then Eanes School in 8th Grade on the Way to Allen Junior High in Austin, graduating from Austin High School 1949.

Grace married Henry Lenz in a double wedding with her younger sister, Jerry and Wilburn Burklund in 1952. Henry was immediately inducted into the Army and was sent to Fairbanks, Alaska where Grace joined him and worked for Base Supply while he was serving his time in the Army. They returned to Austin for a couple of years then they moved to Harlingen, Texas where their two sons were born. They eventually moved to California joining Henry’s mother, dad and older brother.

Grace became the Secretary to the Dean of Student Services at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA, in June 1965 a position she held until she retired in 1998. She took classes after work for many years earning the AA Degree plus completing 200 more units before retirement After retiring she volunteered for the Lesher Theater in Walnut Creek for 5 years, then volunteered for Kaiser Hospital in Martinez for another 5 years. Grace had been a dancer for most of her life so upon meeting Elroy Holtmann at a ballroom dance in May 2003 that activity was secured for the rest of her life. On their first anniversary they danced at the Moulin Rouge in Paris. They traveled the world beginning with Maui in 2003 to Russia, Europe, India, Singapore, through both the Suez and Panama canals, Australia and China, Egypt, Iceland and all 50 of the United States.
