Gord's obituary

Gordon "Gord" Birch, born in 1932, left this earthly realm on May 25, 2022. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Gord was a man of bountiful laughter, a ceaseless streak of generosity, and a kind heart that always found a way to brighten everyone's day. His spirit had an infectious radiance that was underlined by an outgoing nature and a keen sense of humor.

He is survived by his precious daughters, Rebecca and Amanda Birch, and amazing sons, Gordon and Kenneth Birch and is remembered fondly by his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Arlene and Claudia and one brother Craig.

Gord loved to spend time with the children and the sweet, kind memories he crafted with them will echo in their hearts forever.

Gord's favorite pastimes portrayed a diverse palate. He was a lover of Boston Pizza's Meteor Pizza or chicken fingers, always with a strict 'no 'ese' as he was allergic to shellfish. His love for Black Coffee was well known and never copied by his daughter Becky!

His interests ranged from novels by Tom Clancy and other crime authors, to railroading literature, and 'The Outlander'. On the television, 'Love Nature' and 'Jeopardy' were his favorites, the latter watched especially for mom. Despite not being a movie buff, he lived his life behind a camera lens, capturing beautiful memories through his cherished photographs and movies of family, places, friends, wildlife, and flora.

His artistic inclinations were realized through his sketches, often focusing on wildlife or cabins. Gord's love for games was embodied in engaging rounds of Dice and Cribbage, his appreciation for performances evident in the delight he took watching Becky dance ballet.

A lover of the great outdoors, Gord enjoyed fishing, wood carving, and the restoration of antique cars. Gold Panning was his exercise of choice, and he was the first to try and sell hovercrafts in the Okanagan! Vacationing for him meant camping, climbing to the top of a mountain, gold panning, rock hunting, or just unwinding in Arizona or Uma, and visiting casinos.

Gord harbored a deep affection for his local cafes, the Goldpanner cafe and Hot Spot on 6th being his favorites. His compassionate heart always had a place for those in need, and his efforts to aid them are echoed through his care for countless souls.

Gord's lessons were simple, yet profound - he always encouraged everyone to smile, as it truly goes a long way. Among his notable accomplishments were his long career in Railroading, the loving care he provided for his family, ensuring they were never in want, and his open-door policy that extended a warm welcome to all.

Gord Birch's legacy is a testament to his loving and strong character. He will forever be remembered as a beacon of joy, love, and strength. In our hearts forever and now with his wife of 54 years, Erma Louise Foreman, who transitioned 2014. They are at peace.
