Obituary for Gloria (Walsh) Wolak
WHITESBORO/ROCHESTER, NY – Gloria (Walsh) Wolak, 90 years young, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at her Memory Care Residence at Creekstone.

Gloria was born in Utica on December 17, 1930, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Walczak) Walsh. She was the 1948 Salutatorian of Proctor High School and graduated from Syracuse University Cum Laude. Gloria married Edward A. Wolak on June 2, 1957, in St. Mary’s Church, New York Mills. Their blessed union of 24 years was cut short by his passing on April 21, 1981. During her 45 years at National Auto Stores, Gloria was the office manager for most of her career. Her retirement years were spent working part time at St. Mary’s Church parish office and as the office manager at the Jewish Community Center for 18 years until her actual retirement at 83 years of age.

Gloria was predeceased by her siblings Jacob, John and Elizabeth (Tootsie). Gloria is survived by her daughter, Andrea (Michael) Maccarone, Penfield, NY, son, Richard (Maria) Wolak, grandchildren, Edward and Lea Wolak, Vernon, NY and niece Julie (Rick) Turk, Remsen NY.

Gloria was active for many years within St. Mary’s Church and was a past President of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers as well as a past Chapter President of the National Association of Accountants. She loved sewing, gardening, reading and a hot cup of coffee with dessert! She enjoyed a variety of continual educational and self-enrichment classes at Utica College and Munson-William Proctor Arts Institute. Gloria always said a day without learning is a day without growing.

Gloria is returning home after living in Rochester for 11 months. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at The Church of the Sacred Heart &St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Strick COVID Rules will apply including virtual hugging. Spring interment will be in St. Stanislaus & Casimir Cemetery, Whitesboro.

Remembrances in Gloria’s name may be made to Sacred Heart & St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, Oneida County Office for the Aging & Continuing Care, Oriskany, NY, or the Rochester Presbyterian Home. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Gloria’s family would like to thank Trinity Services Nutrition Program, Daughters for Hire, especially Sarah Beck, and the Leo’s House staff, especially Marge, Crystal, and Rainey, at the Memory Care Residence at Creekstone, part of the Rochester Presbyterian Home.
