Gloria Linda van Dalen (Powell) was “Promoted to Glory” at the age of 70 at the Cornerstone Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, Florida. After having survived cancer four years earlier, Gloria developed a tumor in her cerebellum. Following the removal of the tumor, Gloria was diagnosed with leptomeningeal cancer which spread rapidly and was untreatable. She was transferred to Hospice the day after Christmas where she was visited by dozens of friends and family until her passing at 1:43am, January 13, 2020.
Gloria was born on February 18, 1949 in Los Angeles, CA, to Ralph LeRoy Powell and Venice Latitia Powell (Burt).
She graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1967 and married Hendrik Allegondus van Dalen on May 26, 1972. The couple resided in Davenport, FL. She is survived by her husband, Henry and two children, Erin Michelle van Dalen (Davenport, FL) and Joshua Philip van Dalen (Clermont, FL).
Gloria and her parents were members of the Salvation Army church in Los Angeles where she accepted Jesus as her Lord. Gloria lived a life of deep abiding faith in God and love of man.
Gloria received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, Summa Cum Laude, from LaSalle University in 1996 and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude earning her Master of Arts in Music Composition in 2001 from the University of Devonshire. She was Music Director at the Gloria Dei Lutheran School and Sun River Baptist Church in Sacramento, CA. She was a musician, composer, conductor and entertainer throughout her life. She taught music, volunteered at churches, school and community theatrical productions and entertained at Walt Disney World for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carol McBride.
Her family will conduct a celebration of life sometime in the future.
Gloria’s body has been donated to scientific research.
