Gloria's obituary
Gloria Jean Osborne, suddenly passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Edison Hospital in New Jersey, on September 22, 2002.
Gloria dedicated her life to promoting and securing the safety of people in her community and beyond. In her professional life she enjoyed a 30 year leadership career serving communities with developmenal challenges.
Gloria celebrated her birthday on June 5th and was born in Georgetown, Guyana to Prince and Albertha Osborne, née Codrington. Gloria was a strong, compassionate, and hardworking daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She was an essential contributor to her communities. She helped many secure dignified work and inspired careers that afforded many to pursue the American dream.
Early in her youth Gloria's creative and artistic interest took hold; she wanted to be a seamstress. At 10 years old she became self taught at sewing and pattern making. Gloria continued to develop her skills at becoming a seamstress and tailor. She continued to develop and assert her skills at Polk Junior College in Lakeland, Florida. Ultimately moving to New York and later settling in northern New Jersey, Gloria honed her craft as seamstress and tailor making wedding dresses and more. When Gloria was not working she was showing her sons that hardwork and dedication paid off. Her house was usually filled with her sons' friends. She was a constant in many young lives in their formative years; many regarded Gloria as another mother.
Gloria enjoyed a second career at United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) for 30 years becoming a unit manager. Her empathy, compassion, and character brought many people in her community and beyond meaningful work in health care. After retiring from UCP, Gloria focused on spending time with her family, mainly her grandchildren, and connecting with friends. She was always telling a good joke and sending daily inspirational messages. True to her love for art, Gloria decorated for Christmas pageants and as a talented singer, led sing alongs at events.
Gloria Jean Osborne, in person and now in spirit remains an asset and inspiration to humanity. Gloria is survived by her sons Owen Osborne and Andre Lampley; her 6 grandchildren and her sister Yvonne Eunice Babb née Osborne. She is loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Gloria's legacy continues through the wisdom, guidance, and lessons she shared with all. Her family prays to God to rest her soul.
