Gloria's obituary

Gloria "Glo" Thomas, 69, of Bath, ME, passed away on June 14, 2023, surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren, and her siblings.

Gloria, born on October 11, 1953 to Robert Brousseau and Constance (Dumont) Brousseau in Lewiston, Maine immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. Gloria first learned to speak french at home with her family, and was able to speak fluently as she started Catholic School.  Where she also quickly learned to write with her right hand, just as easily as she had learned to write with her left hand. Later she went on to enter into the public school system, learning to also speak english, and earned her GED.

Gloria had married Michael Shaw in January of 1971, and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to join him at Nellis Air Force Base. Along with their daughter and son, they returned to Maine in 1975.  Gloria and Michael were later divorced in January of 1980.  After a few years rough years, and both having new relationships. The two were able to remain on good terms, and spent holidays celebrating with their children, grandchildren, and new spouses.

Gloria was able to find and share her faith and love for the Lord with  Steve Thomas, and they were married April 1, of 1994. They remained steadfast in their faith, active members of Topsham  Baptist Church.  Sharing a  love for dancing, the ocean, music, and car rides, as well as for Steve's son, Steve Jr.  Of the two of them Gloria remained the one who was not only seen but often heard laughing or clowning around.  Steve was often not only waiting for Gloria to finish her stories and get ready to go, but giggling under his breath at her antics too.

Gloria worked for many years as a waitress, hostess, and even cook in the restaurant business.  She remained a hard worker, and with her personality did very well catering to the public.  Heard many times, Gloria would share her favorite job, was assisting residents at a Nursing Home with activities and entertainment.  The job gave her the opportunity to not only talk and tell stories, but to really bring joy to others, and this gave her so much happiness.

Gloria was very crafty, she was able to sew, stitch, crochet, draw, paint, and even played around with flower arranging.  Gardening was also a favorite pass time for Gloria, and she was often found digging up plants on the side of a road, and then bringing them home to her own beautiful gardens. Flowers or vegetables, she was able to make them all grow like weeds.

Gloria also loved food and loved cooking for those she loved.  She often spoke of wanting to have her own cooking show, and made several funny videos that she would share.

Gloria was the oldest of her 7 siblings and she remained the most likely to be the one making the silly face in the photos, or the one working to get everyone to laugh. Often referring to herself as the "clown", she would then laugh, and say every family has at least one clown.

Gloria was very proud to not only be a grandmother, but to be a great grandmother too.  Having been a young mother and grandmother, she had hoped to also meet her great grandchildren, and she did.  She loved to hear the stories of their mischief, and found such joy in getting time with them. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have so many tales and laughter to remember.  The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Gloria was predeceased by her baby brother Barry Owen Brousseau, her father Robert Brousseau, her mother Constance Spencer, her stepfather Ralph C Spencer.  She is survived by her Husband Steve Thomas of Bath, Maine, her daughter Rhonda Murray and husband Walton Murray of Richmond, Maine, her son Jesse Shaw and partner Christina Estabrook of Woolwich, Maine. Grandsons Walton Murray Jr, and Issac Shaw, and Granddaughters Nancy Murray, Melinda Murray, Jaedyn Stewart, and 6 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters Rita Cote, Pat Baril, Linda Williams, Pamela Keene, and her brothers Dana Brousseau, Gary Brousseau, and James Brousseau. As well as several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Topsham Baptist Church, 52 Roman Road in Topsham, Maine on Saturday June 24, 2023 at 10 am.
