Gloria's obituary

Gloria Azucena (Dixon) Phillips, 74, of New Orleans, Louisiana, peacefully transitioned on January 24, 2023 after losing her battle to lung cancer. She was the last child born to her parents on May 5, 1948 in La Ceiba, Honduras, C.A.

She graduated from Booker T Washington High School in 1967. After graduation, she earned an Associate’s degree. In the late 90s, she went on to study Food Preparation at Cordon Bleu College where she earned her certification.

Gloria worked as a Cafeteria Associate for 24+ years at several Hilton Hotel properties but made her home at The Roosevelt Hotel.

She enjoyed cooking, being around her family and friends, watching a good soccer game, dancing and enjoying life. She was affectionally known as “GoGo”, “Miss Gloria” or “Mamacita” to all that loved her. In 2020, Gloria was honored with being chosen as one of 100 representatives from all over the world to represent the Southeast region for the Hilton Hotels 100th anniversary. She received a free trip to New York City and she stood on the podium and helped to ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange. She also won various employee service awards for excellent service throughout her tenure. Her favorite colors were red, pink, blue and green. Her favorite flower was a red rose.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Terry, in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, George and Leonore Dixon, her siblings- Joyce Dalson, Hewitt Dixon, Roland Dixon, Marlon Dixon and her brother-in-law Edgar Dalson and sister-in-law Zina Dixon.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her only child, Dayna Teresa (Dregory) Collins. Mother-in-law of Allen Joseph Collins. Grandmother of Alana Lori Collins and Chason Avery Collins. Sister-in-law of Patricia A. Dixon. Aunt of Phyllis Corley, Diann Narcisse, Edgardo Dalson, Sonita Dixon-Rochon, Tandi Dixon-Sonara, Jerlen Didie, James (Puro) Dixon Jr. plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends here and abroad. Sister of Thomas Hess Dixon.
