Obituary of Glenna Barrette

Glenna Mae (Rudd) Barrette died July 10 in Alameda, CA at Oakmont of Cardinal Point. She was born on September 10, 1923, to Wayne Donald Rudd and Lacey Mae (Cunefare) Rudd in the Methodist Hospital, Peoria, Illinois. She lived in Indiana most of her early years, attended Ball State College and came to live in California with her mother in 1945, after the death of her father in 1940.

Glenna married Lt. Col. Bruce S. Barrette in 1948. Two children were born to the couple: Carol Ann and Gregory Michael. Carol attended the University of California, Berkeley. Gregory attended California State University, Stanislaus. Glenna lived for 52 years on Sandelin Avenue in San Leandro, CA. Glenna spent her childhood on trains. Her father, grandfather and numerous uncles all worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. She traveled extensively all her life.

Glenna had been active in volunteer work. Her efforts include 18 years on the USS Hornet CVA-12, berthed in Alameda, CA, as a docent; 25 years as a docent of Dunsmuir Historic Estate in Oakland; more than 20 years on the Sea West Coast Guard Federal Credit Union on Government Island, Alameda; as well as three years with the Berkeley Rotary Club.
