Glenn's obituary

On December 26, 2022, Glenn Curtis Boyette, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He had just recently turned 70 years old.

Glenn was born on November 26, 1952 to Rachel and Vestel (“Red”) Boyette in Savannah, Georgia. When he was four years old, his family moved to his grandparents’ farm in Alamo, Georgia, where he spent the rest of his childhood surrounded and nurtured by three generations of loving family members. He often mentioned friends and teachers as part of the community that helped him become the person he was.

From 1970 to 1974, Glenn studied acting and directing at Valdosta State College, where he met Becky, and made friendships that have lasted a lifetime. He loved acting and was a joy to watch onstage, always getting rave reviews. Little did he know that his work-study job building scenery, learning lighting, props, and set dressing would ultimately become the direction his career would take.

He and Becky married in 1974, lived in Valdosta for two more years, and moved to Atlanta in 1976. After working several carpentry jobs at the Harlequin Dinner Theater and Sugar Creek Scenic Studios, he landed at Turner Broadcasting, where he worked for thirty-four years until his retirement in 2014.

Glenn started the Turner Studios Scenic Services department in 1981, and it’s still going strong today. Once again, he made lifelong friends there.

In 1978, the Boyettes bought an old house that he jokingly said it took years to “bring it up to condemned”. Glenn, Becky, and the girls poured their skills and love into that old house. It is where they said their final goodbyes, and after 44 years, it is loved even more.

Glenn and Becky raised three wonderful daughters and are proud grandparents of three wonderful granddaughters. When Glenn was asked if he’d wanted a boy, he always replied that his three girls were everything he could ever want. In fact, he always wanted a heart and dagger tattoo that said, “Born to Raise Girls”.

In addition to their daughters, Glenn and Becky raised many (many!) animals, including cats, dogs, birds, turtles, rodents, and more.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Becky Boyette, “Beck”; three daughters, Erin Ellis (James), Jessica Bragg (Will), and Rachel Boyette; granddaughters Samantha and Hannah Bragg and Ruby Smith; brothers Dennis Boyette (Pam d.) and Terry Grant (Jan); plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Glenn was preceded in death by his grandparents; Lamar Wesley Clark and Willa Pearl McGhee Clark, and Preston and Mamie Boyette; his father, Vestel Curtis Boyette; his mother, Rachel Clark Grant; his step-father, James Monroe Grant; his brother, Jimmy Grant (Donna); and his granddaughter Isabelle Kathryn Bragg.
