Prayer for the Grieving Heart

Lord,

I come to you in prayer today to Seek comfort and solace.

Father, I’m crushed, and my heart is filled with so much sadness.

It feels like I can’t go on and all I can do is cry.

Father, I pray for your strength. Please

Strengthen me and fill my heart with hope.

Help me to accept this loss that has befallen me.

And grant me the grace to persist in life.

Heal my broken heart.

Lord and help me find joy in life again.

Amen

The Graceful Chapter

Shared by Resha Porter

Glen loved science and technology. Troubleshooting a computer problem was fun to him.
The Discovery and Science channels were two of his favorites. He also liked the old sitcoms: "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Everyone Loves Raymond", along with action and sci-fi movies. He loved all types of music and had an extensive collection. He was a great dancer.
Glen was a brother to me. He started off as my neighbor on Deary Street, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. We were childhood friends turned into brothers that finally became cousins. Glen introduced me to the martial arts that he loved so much, and taught me the game of chess. He won most games but was so proud of me when I finally had a victory. I knew his whole family very well, and this is a devastating loss of a dear brother, friend, and cousin . Our memories with last forever and he will always be in my thoughts.

I went to college outside of Philadelphia and my mom and my dad both made multiple round trip 6 hour drives to bring me home to Pittsburgh for holidays and breaks. One trip from Philly to Pittsburgh is burned in my memory. It was probably Christmas break, because there was a blizzard.

The Pennsylvania turn pike was a perlious nightmare. But my Dad did not postpone his trip to come.e pick me up. True to his nature, he put me first. My disappointment in a delay in being picked up came before the risk of driving conditions. He was there to get me as scheduled.  My dependable Dad. The drive back to Pittsburgh was even more precarious than the drive there, it was nightine, dark and snowy. We drove in silence. Dad intensely focused on the serpentine-like road though the Pennsylvania hills. But the silence between my dad and I was ok, comfortable, normal. We had a connection that didn't need any words.

At one point we slid on ice, crossed the median and were headed straight toward a semi truck. Dad navigated us to safety and we continued on our journey, only exchanging a look. "I love you, I'm so relieved we're ok."

I love you Dad. I'm sad, and I'll miss you, but I'm ok and I know you are too.
