Gita's obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Gita Vaish on April 15, 2026. She was 79 years old.
Born in Kanpur, India, Gita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her dear husband Harish of 60 years; her cherished children Aparna and Parag, and their spouses, Vivek and Payal; and her grandchildren, Ravi, Nithin, Saanya, and Nalin.
Gita was raised and educated in India. Her father worked for the United Nations, which gave her the opportunity to travel to Kenya, Libya, and other African countries. She married Harish in 1965. She left the comforts of India to immigrate to the US in 1970 and raise a family while Harish pursued his Ph.D at Georgia Tech. In 1974, the Vaish family moved to Northridge, California. Once Aparna and Parag were settled in school, Gita became a Los Angeles Unified School District teacher for special needs children. She retired after 20 years of service.
Gita will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, generosity, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. She was a bright light in the lives of many. She was patient and always willing to listen and help. She was known for laughing with her entire heart and body. She was artistic and creative: she sewed clothing and blankets with intricate patterns for her kids and grandkids, she assembled wedding floral arrangements for family friends; and she weaved complex beaded jewelry and clothes. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Her spirit will continue to live on through shared memories.
