Girby's obituary
Girby was born on June 29, 1959 to Gabriel and Esther Santillan in Kansas City, Missouri.
He spent most of his life working with his hands as a boiler maker, iron worker, line man, and stagehand. Anywhere he went he had a story to tell about how he built the cable lines, the bridges, and buildings of Kansas City and was always sporting a colorful bandana wherever he went. He always used to say he built this city on rock n’ roll.
In his past time, Girby loved to spend hours in the kitchen, gardening, riding his bike around the city, sitting on the porch or by the fire pit, listening to his jams, watching his Seattle Seahawks, dancing the night away and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sandra Casarez and Toni Phillips; brother-in-law, Harley Taylor Sr.; and sister-in-law, Lupe Bolanos.
He is survived by his three children, Monica Gonzales, Joseph (Maria) Santillan and Alicia (Matthew) Klenzak; his sisters, Rita Taylor, Julianna Santillan and Antionette (Reynaldo) Frutis; brothers, Gabriel (Cheryl) Santillan, Gilbert David Bolanos, Ronald Bolanos and Edward Granado; his six grandchildren, Robert (Kylie), Gabriel (Katelyn), Desiree, Amber, Adrian, and Jacob; and his fur babies Gwen Stefani and Sim.
Girby was loved by anyone who met him. He was always available to lend a hand to those who were in need. He will be remembered for his big heart and his numerous mantras; Hootie Hootie Hootie Hoo!!
A visitation will be held Friday April 23, 2021 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Sebbeto Funeral Home.
