Ginger's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ginger Lenore Phillips, a woman of unwavering spirit and undeniable charm. Ginger, born in 1972 in Berkeley, CA, departed from this world on January 26, 2024 after her battle with Lung Cancer. She was a beacon of life and love and was best known for her cheerleading spirit, unwavering persistence, and warm heart.

Ginger's life was a testament to her mantra, "Do it...afraid." Upon graduation from high school, she embarked on a year-long journey to France, learning to speak French fluently. This adventure was a testament to her courage and a marker of her willingness to face a new and foreign world with zest and eagerness.

Her legacy, a shining example of perseverance, will forever inspire those fortunate to have known her as she used her fighting spirit to speak up and fight for those without a voice whether it be homeless youth, forgotten patients of the Utah State Hospital, training others in Peer Advocacy,  lobbying at the Utah State Capitol for mental health appearing frequently before the Utah State legislature in defense of those who are mentally ill, and more. In 2019, Ginger showed dedication to self and after a lot of hard work obtained her Bachelor's of Arts from the University of Utah in Political Science. Her indomitable spirit and enduring tenacity encourage us all to face our fears head-on, and to live our lives to the fullest, just as she did.

Ginger was also a performer and excelled in her passion of Clogging and dancing since the age of 8 with Hay Day Cloggers. Ginger was a championship freestyle clogger and also danced in many productions throughout her life including being a part of the dance program at San Ramon Valley High and dancing the 1992 production of "And It Came To Pass" in Oakland, CA; more recently being a featured dancer in "The Music Man" as well as performing with the Redwood County Cloggers.

Ginger lived most of her adult life in Salt Lake City, Utah having recently moved back to the Bay Area to Marin County where her love of the beach and ocean was evident. Ginger loved her dogs. Ginger always had a plus one the latest being Anaise, who passed in June 2023.

Ginger is succeeded by her parents, Jim & Adele Phillips, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. She leaves a void in our lives that cannot be filled but her spirit lives on in our hearts. Her memory will always be a beacon of love and courage.

The CALIFORNIA memorial service to honor Ginger's life will be held on February 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM at 1875 Highland Way in Brentwood, CA. A celebration of Ginger's life will be held in UTAH in March 23, 2024 at 11:00AM, at First Methodist Church in Salt Lake City at 203 S 200 E. We invite all those who were touched by Ginger's life to join us in remembering and celebrating the remarkable woman that she was.
