Gilars's obituary
Gil grew up in New York, like any typical child spent his weekends at Latvian school and accordion practice. He continued to learn valuable life skills as a NYC cab driver while earning his architecture degree at Pratt Institute. He passed down his trademark “nudge” (tactfully swerving in front of a snowbird) allowing him to cut into the lane.
Gil, an artist, had a talent for making life even more beautiful than it already is. Life was made better through his watercolor, cooking, eccentricities, smile, and the way he loved his family. There was nothing he couldn’t create from a chicken heart sauté to a raw egg smoothie, from a career as an architectural illustrator to home projects he could make an idea come to life. With his flask of coffee and his wide brimmed sun hat he could be spotted walking near the water with a hand held easel painting. He lived his life the way he wanted starting this work day at 3 am so he could spend the rest of the day surfing, painting, and taming wild lizards.
Gil, a 6’6” tall pole with an incredible smile and a gentle nature, will be missed every day by his wife of 23 years Jill, son and surfing buddy “Nicky”, daughter Sydney (Matthew Mee), grandchildren and potty talk competitors Everly, Phoebe, Sylvie, and brother and dart slinger Egils Zarins (Christine).

A casual celebration of life will be held at the family home on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 330. Please RSVP to jillzarins@bellsouth.net
