Gertrude was a joy to be around. I am thankful every day that my Dave found the love of his life in Teresa and brought this wonderful family in my life. I spent a memorable Thanksgiving with Gertrude and shared several weddings. I will miss her very much and am keeping her family close to my heart during these times. Thank you for sharing your Gertrude with me, she will be greatly missed.

Onkel Toralv, Betty, Teresa, Janet, Thom and family. We were so sorry to hear the news of Tante Gjertrud's passing. As I said before, thank you for keeping Mom updated and I passed the news along every day. I went thru a few albums and found a few older pictures which I will post. She was a beautiful lady who loved her family fiercely. We had some great talks through the years and gave great advice. I'll always remember our "Tanksgivnings" and Christmas' together years ago, camping and going to Canada in the Summers, at the cabin and Florida. Those 4 were always together! Every time I think of Dad, I always thinking of him and Tante Gjertrud laughing and laughing...you had to laugh with them.
I loved her. She will be missed and never forgotten.

It broke my heart when I found out that Gertrud had passed away ! I have always thought about her laugh and beautiful smile !! I tried many times to meet her and Toralv when they were wisiting Norway and Årdal. I really hoped that when my parents were wisiting me at Christmas in Miami Beach,  that they would come to Florida too that year.   But that year, 90-91 you had other plans. The 23 of December we all went to a cruise to the Bahamas, Bimini, my dad just loved the People we met there, swimming in a great sea. We went to the Sand-bar, writing Our names on the wall . I was working as a tourguide in Miami Beach for over 1 and a half years before i had a guest, coming from my mothers Birth Place in Malangen, he told me they needed tourguides on Hurtigruten in Norway. Me and another guide loved to work  in America. She got an offer from a cruise-Company sailing from LA. I got an offer from the ship  SS Norway to sail and work on their boats. When I called Troms Fylkes Dampskipsselskap I had learned that you had to ask about the payment. When I got the answer 15.000 kr when you were on the boat working and the same amount when you were home. I could not believe it !! I had been working 6 days a week for 2600 kr With an opportunity to get 3000 kr additionally on comission. I DID NOT HAVE MY FEET ON THE GROUND IN MANY WEEKS !!!!! Wow, the best way of coming back to Norway after many, many years working  several Places. So I went home to Årdal, remember me and dad were going skating on the river NeXT to my homeplace. I flew up to Trondheim to enter the most oldest ship they had ; M/S "Polarlys". I loved the sea, especially when the weather was very bad ! Toralv, you and Your children are very precious to me and I know you will the loss for ever. I do not have dad, nor my mother, but I know we will meet again in heaven when Our time here on Earth is over. I was dead 3 times when I had the car-accident Christmas 97. I got a real chock when I saw myself lying in the bed at the intensive care. I was very, very comitted to my dad. Lying in Miami Beach, Reading the manusript for the Disney-world trip that I LOVED to do 2 times a week. When the time for waking up my dad I called collect Call  to say Good Morning to him very often.  Betty Linn, Teresa,Janet and Thom you are all in my minds and prayers !!!!

She had a way of making you feel like everything you told her was the most amazing & special thing that she had ever heard before. She was genuine & loving beyond belief—she was always serving God & others.

Her legacy lives on in her beautiful family—her children and grandchildren all have her gorgeous eyes & big heart. Tears stream down my face as I write this, because she is so painfully missed already by all who knew her.

I like to picture her dancing on the streets of heaven & making kransekage for all of God’s children. I remember one time I tried to make a kransekage...it ended up looking like a volcano gone wrong, but Mormor acted like it was the most lovely thing she had ever seen.

I’m so deeply sorry my second family for loss of your perfect matriarch. She’s always been an angel & is even more so now. I love you all 💕

I didn't know Gertrude personally, but I know her daughters. I know how much fire and spunk they have, and when I see pictures of Gertrude, I see her girls in her eyes, and I feel certain that they got it from her. Even in photos, I can see she is a shining star.
