Gerri's obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Gerri Simko, on April 16, 2026, at the age of 95.

Born on March 1, 1931, she grew up in Bay View, Wisconsin, before moving to Milwaukee where she raised her family with her loving husband Johnny, who she is now reunited with, creating memories for over 60 years.

Gerri found immense joy in life’s simple moments, especially when accompanied by a good book, a glass of wine and the beautiful flowers that filled her yard. It was these simple pleasures that often sparked her favorite thing, a quick chat. Gerri possessed the unmatched ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, from her dearest loved ones, to a stranger she just met, always leaving them feeling happier and genuinely welcome in her world.

Faith was also an essential part of Gerri’s life and her church was a second home, providing her with not just the comfort of her faith, but with a community of dear friends. Whether sharing a quiet moment with that church family or making lasting memories with her own, Gerri’s devotion to her loved ones was absolute, and she considered the people in her life to be her very best blessing. We will miss her dearly.

Gerri is preceded in death by her devoted husband, John Simko; her children, Mike Simko, Ken Simko, Cindy Hojnacki; her sister, Barb; and her grandson, Dale Hojnacki.

Her memory will be forever held dear by her surviving son, Jim Simko; her sister, Pauline; and her loving grandchildren, Nikki and Stephanie (children of Jim), Kara and Paul (children of Ken) and Jason (Jessica) and Chad (Amy) (children of Cindy).
