Geroge's obituary
Born in North Albany on July 11, 1925, he was the son of George Allen Cinney Sr. and Lillian Campbell Cinney.
He was drafted into the United States Navy on his eighteenth birthday, in 1943, and served in the Pacific Theater of World War II as a radioman on the USS Houston. He took part in the Battle of the Marianas, the Battle of Peleliu, and the Battle of Okinawa, and was rescued from the water by sailors of the USS Fletcher after the USS Houston was badly damaged by a Japanese torpedo at the Battle of Formosa in October 1944.
After the War, he worked for Albany Frosted Foods, where he had the good fortune to meet his wife, Katherine Ryan Cinney. He founded the G.A. Cinney Company, a Food Brokerage Company, and managed that for over thirty years until his retirement. He was afforded many accolades for his success in the brokerage business. He was affectionately known as the "Flying Food Broker". A born salesman and a man of tremendous enthusiasm, he was known by all for his talent as a golfer, his knack for jokes, his interest in vocabulary, his skill as a pilot, his love of travel, and his eye for photography. He put his eight children through college, and played gin at Wolfert’s Roost Country Club every day after his retirement.
He was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in North Albany. He was a founding parishioner of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville, was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, served as a Eucharistic Minister as recently as 2019, and was conspicuous for his devotion to his Catholic faith.
He is predeceased by his parents; his wife Katherine Cinney; his son George Cinney III; his sisters, Cecelia Cinney, Rosemary Cinney, Gloria Cinney Lawton, and Dolores Lestner Horwedel; and many relatives from the large, extended Campbell clan of North Albany.
He is survived by his children, Christine (Edward) Farley, David (Denise) Cinney, Katherine Cinney, Patricia Brohm, Michael Cinney, Carol (John) Oxenreiter, Joseph Cinney; and his wife, Rita M.
