Gerard's obituary

Gerard Mary Barry, 64, of Paulding County, Georgia, passed away on January 2, 2026, in Paulding County, Georgia.

Gerard was born on February 6, 1961, in County Leitrim, Ireland. He later made his home in Georgia, where he lived most of his life in Cobb County and built a career in public service with the Cobb County Government, Department of Transportation. Through his work, he contributed quietly and steadily to the community he called home.

Above all else, Gerard was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved raising his daughters, Eryn Mary Barry and Colleen Katherine Barry, and took great pride in caring for their horses—a labor of love that reflected his dedication, patience, and generous spirit. In later years, he found deep joy in being “Pop-Pop” to his granddaughter, Addison Kay Higgins, cherishing every moment spent with her.

Gerard is preceded in death by his parents, James Barry and Katie Costello; his sister, Teresa Barry (McCormick); and his brother, Sean Barry.

Those who knew Gerard will remember him as a man whose life was defined by responsibility, loyalty, and love for his family. He lived by the belief that “Any man can be a father, it takes a special man to be a Dad,” a sentiment he embodied every day of his life.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 16, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at South Care Funeral and Cremation Society, located at 595 Franklin Gateway, Marietta, Georgia 30067.

Gerard’s legacy lives on through his children, his granddaughter, and all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
