Geraldine Mae Block (Gerry), age 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence at Cypress Court, Escondido, California February 16, 2020 of natural causes. She was born January 18, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to Louis and Verena Chaussee. Gerry moved with her family at age 15 to Long Beach California. She married her first love, James Paul Block, in September of 1953, who preceded her in death in 1997. In the early 80’s, Gerry moved with her husband and youngest son to Valley Center, CA where she was lived until 2018.

Gerry enjoyed many crafts, such as wood working, sewing, crocheting and making quilts. She loved to play games, card games and spelling games were her favorites. She enjoyed reading books and working in her garden. Gerry sang in the church choir for years, she enjoyed playing songs on her piano and attending concerts at the California Center of the Arts.

Gerry worked for Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church School in Long Beach California, as a school secretary for many years. She was a big giver! Over the years she volunteered much of her time. Some of her notable volunteer work: Brownies, Girl Scouts, School Field Trips, St. Stephens Church, Valley Center Library, California Center for the Arts and much more. She not only gave of her time but contributed greatly to many charitable organizations.

Gerry is survived by her sister Barbara Benton, sister Diana Bingo; her four children, Terri King and husband Mark, Steve Block, Donna Block, Ken Block and his wife Lucy; grandchildren, James Block and his wife Rachel, Lauren Peairs and her husband Jamison, Steven Block and his wife Ashly, Sarah Seate, Harmony King, Lia, Kira and Mika Block.

At Geraldine's request, her body was donated to the Western University of Health Sciences for the advancement of science in Pomona, CA. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. at Saint Stephens Catholic Church in Valley Center, 31020 Cole Grade Road, Valley Center, CA on March 7, 2020 at 10 a.m.
