Very sorry for your family's loss. I (along with so many others) wrote for Questbusters and conversed at length with him on all manner of fascinating topics for many, many years. What struck me most upon hearing of his death (via this obit) is that he wasn't really Shay Adams! Not once did he ever let on to anyone that I know that this was nothing more than a pen name. Nor, it turns it, did I have any idea about many of his most cherished assets -- like his family. "Shay" would expound vociferously on one topic while never even hinting at things he clearly felt were private. He was, to many of us, a complex, contradictory enigma that never failed to entertain or energize the listener. Many times he would talk about doing something that seemed, on its face, outrageously out-of-character--only to then go on to do it.
My life was was improved and the better for knowing this man, and I personally cannot think of any higher praise to aspire to than that. He has been missed. He will continue to be missed.

So sorry for your loss. I was a big fan of his work as Shay Addams and read the complete run of Questbusters from start to finish, and all his Quest for Clues books. He made a great contribution to adventure game players around the world for a good 2 decades or more!

I did not know Mr. Moore personally. In fact, I only knew him as "Shay Addams" - the originator of the irregularly-but-sometimes-and-somewhat-monthly-or-not QuestBusters newsletter, and author of books on some of the favorite games of my youth. After recently unearthing some old games with QuestBusters newsletters as well, I happened to start a whatever-happened-to search and found out this recent, sad news.
I hope it gives some comfort knowing that he easily touched hundreds, if not thousands, of old gamers like me. He holds a special place in our hearts (even if he later enjoyed those, plus diamonds, spades and clubs much more than computer games).
My deepest sympathies and condolences to the entire Moore family.

It so happened, that a very large "sink hole" appeared in Guatemala City in May. Shay's retort was "Aha, "the sink hole de Mayo", referring to the traditional celebration of "Cinco de Mayo" - the fifth of May when many of us in Guatemala celebrate by drinking too much. His witticisms were extraordinary, and spot on.

So sorry for you and Noel, and your girls! Barbara is in our prayers also.
