Gerald's obituary
Gerald Tillman Merritt, 81 of Acworth, GA went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 19, 2023 at home surrounded by family.
Gerald was born April 13, 1942 in Smyrna, GA to the late J. T. Merritt and the late Aileen Morgan Merritt.
He enlisted in the Navy where he served for 4 years. He served proudly on the USS Constellation.
Gerald’s career was in the carpentry industry. He was known for his strong work ethic even in his later years up until his passing. He worked many years as a custom home builder.
He was a father to many and was loved for his warm, genuine, empathetic, and laid back approach to life. His love for God and his family was always at the forefront of his life.
He was committed to his faith in spreading the gospel holding tent revival’s in inner cities. As well as supporting his wife’s Merritt Family,singer’s gospel music . Including prison ministries and helping local churches supply coats for the needy’s in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia
His sense of humor and stories of his youth are memories that his family will cherish forever.
He is survived by his loving wife Pearl Merritt. Children: Justin Merritt; Billy Bailey(Krissy), Shawni Pappariella, (Doug); Mark Scott,(Rhonda); Ted Bailey Sr.; Kristie Scott Miller, (Tim).
23 grandchildren: Ted Bailey, Matthew Bailey, Kim Atkins, Hannah Boerger, Luke Bailey, Latasha Lowery, Josh Bush, Andrew Watson, Tabitha Triplett, Courtney Merritt, Brandon Merritt, Joshua Merritt, Candace Chumley, Taylor Ray Bailey, Ashlyn Bailey, Kylar Ward, Parker Brown, Jessica Merritt, Melissa Merritt, Mark Scott, Chris Scott, Carrie Reeves, Hunter Scott,
and also 31 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joanne Elizabeth Merritt Roe; son Anthony Gerald Merritt; daughter, Bridget Pearl Clodfelter, granddaughter Bobbie Sue Copeland,
brother, Wayne Daniel Merritt; sister Joyce Lockheart.
The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday May 21, 2023 at 3p.m.-5p.m.
Creekside Fellowship Church
A celebration of his life will be held at 12:00p.m. on May 22, 2023 at Creekside Fellowship Church
585 Old Alabama Rd SE, Cartersville, GA 30120 with Pastor Michael Abernathy officiating.
Internment will follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Garden 4355 SR-92 N
Acworth, GA 30102.
With a meal to follow at Creekside.
Memorial flowers and gifts will be received at Creekside fellowship church.
