Just found this out and I’m a bit in shock… Great friend and teammate at DeKalb Junior College baseball in 1980. Played for his Dad Coach Bill Kemp 1979 & 1980. Hugh was a frosh pitcher my Sophomore year at DCC. We had a very competitive Georgia JUCO baseball team where numerous guys went on to play at major colleges. This I know as Hugh and I stayed in touch during his father’s illness Hugh was grounded in Godly ways and I know that he’s now with his Mom & Dad! RIP Hugh as we’ll meet again someday! G

My condolences to the Kemp Family for your loss. He took me in as a friend when I came to UGA and made me feel quite comfortable. We shared some special times together at his house with his parents getting ready to go back to school after summers and Holidays, as well as at UGA as roommates and teammates. I am glad he was part of my life. He will be missed .

I am so sad that Hugh has passed away. Hugh and I got to know each other while coaching softball at Matthews Athletic and Recreation Association. Immediately we became friends. He's just one of those guys. Hugh is a guy who is easy to get to know and also one of those guys you wanted to be around. But, I will now always regret not spending more time with Hugh than I actually did. These past years we talked occasionally, but we saw each other rarely. I know I would be a better person today had I spent more time with Hugh Kemp. He was the kind of guy that made you want to be a better person. He was a proud Christian. He was a proud father and husband. And, he was a great friend. Hugh was just a solid guy, a really good guy, a very positive personality, a bright light for whoever he was around. We lost one of the good guys and God just got a great Relief Pitcher. Love to all the Kemps as they mourn their loss. May Hugh's memory be eternal.

Hugh had a profound impact on my son, Conor Elliott. It was a simple ride back from a baseball weekend. The ride literally changed the course of Conor’s life. Thank you, Hugh. I hope this helps his family and friends in this time of loss.

Hugh & I coached high school baseball @ the Charlotte Christian Knights. He was an outstanding pitching coach and his knowledge helped some Knights players make it to the Major League. He was a very religious guy that loved the Lord, his family, the Ga 'dawgs & friends. RIP Hugh....we will be together again.....???

Absolute love and respect for Hugh that will never diminish.
Growing up, my cousin was such a great role model ... his demeanor, interests and athleticism all had profound impact.
I'm sure you'll still be helping to guide us and i am thankful for that .
Rest in peace .
