Jerry's obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Benson, 76, of Matthews, NC, passed away on April 13, 2023 after a brief but hard fought battle with kidney cancer.

Jerry was born on July 24, 1946 to Edward E. Benson and Eva Simmons Benson in Augusta, GA. After graduating from Butler High School, he was drafted in to the US Army and served overseas in Vietnam.

After his military service, he attended Aiken Technical College for Business Management, and then began his lengthy career in the textile manufacturing equipment industry.

Jerry was ever the charmer and was a great friend to many. He had a life-long love of playing tennis, and you could find him on the courts several days a week. He enjoyed woodworking, and refurbishing his yard sale finds.  After retiring, Jerry spent his time playing tennis with his friends, and spoiling his beloved cats.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Edward E. Benson and Eva Simmons Benson, his sister Connie Benson McCullough, and his brother Charles Benson.

He is survived by his 4 children, Kelly Benson Taylor, Alex Benson, April Benson Martin, and Amanda Benson Dudzik, and his 6 grandchildren, Madison Taylor, Truett Taylor, Logan Lambert, Luke Martin, Thayer Dudzik, and Greer Dudzik.

There are no events planned, as he did not wish to have services.
