Georgina's obituary
Georgina Mae Smith (aka: Toot)
1928 ~ 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Georgina Mae Smith (nee: Martin/Beaver) on January 9, 2025, at the age of 96. Georgina was born on October 19, 1928, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Charles (Amos) and Alice (nee: Perrier) Martin.
Georgina’s life was marked by love and family. She was fortunate to have been married twice, first to Harold Beaver, with whom she had two sons, Darrell and David. After Harold’s tragic passing, she eventually married again to Royce Smith, gaining two more sons, Ernie and Darryl, and finally having her own daughter, Karen.
In her leisure time, Georgina, known lovingly as Toot, enjoyed reading, crocheting, watching television, playing electronic games, and staying connected on social media. She was an avid fan of Danielle Steel novels and loved watching classic movies with her family. Toot was also ahead of her time, mastering the use of an iPad and keeping up with the news on social media with a broad and universal perspective. Her crocheted doilies, which she created with care, will be treasured by those who loved her.
Toot had a deep affection for animals and was a long-time member of the Canadian Wildlife Foundation. Her love for animals began in her childhood, and later in life, she became a breeder of poodles, which she showed and groomed herself.
A kind and generous soul, Toot was always more concerned with others than herself. Her family and friends will remember her for her warm smile, sharp wit, sense of humor, and most of all, her unwavering love.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marie Martin; three sons: David Beaver, Ernie Smith, and Darryl (Marie) Smith; grandchildren: Angie, David, Jennifer, Amy, Andrea, Erin, Kaela, Jamal, and Onika; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Chloe, Dylan, Callie, William, Claire, Jacob, Lexie, Clara, and Emma, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Darrell Beaver, daughter, Karen Smith, and great-granddaughters Nevaeh Carroll and Emily Martin. Family was everything to Toot.
A wake to celebrate Georgina’s life will be held on January 19, 2025, from 2 to 4 pm, with a funeral service on January 20, 2025, at 11 am, both at Atlantic Funeral Home in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the SPCA in her memory.
