OBITUARY FOR GEORGE ALLEN TRASK

George A. Trask, 80, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, with his wife Cookie and daughter Dawn by his side. George was born in Waterbury, CT on April 24, 1943, to Allen and Helen Trask. He spent his younger days in Waterbury along with his sister Margo Arndt after their mother’s passing. His father then moved the family to Hudson, Ohio after marrying Elizabeth Pond in 1955. He lived in Hudson until he went to college at The Ohio State University. He was attending Akron University while in high school and was in the National Honor Society, Boy Scouts and attained the highest award of Eagle Scout. He graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economic Geography. He was in ROTC and upon graduating he enlisted in the Navy. He was stationed on the USS Whitehall and was a proud Seabee and Buckeye.

After graduation he worked for the auditor’s office in Columbus, Ohio and then on to work for the Bureau of Right of Way Department of Transportation for 3/12 years. He met his future wife, Edith (Cookie) Lee and were married in 1971. After marrying they moved to Fort Lauderdale where he was a Review Appraiser for the Florida Department of Transportation for 5 1/2 years. George continued his education toward his Master’s degree at FIU. He was Vice President of Pederson & Trask and was President of Florida Right of Way Associated Inc. President of the Member Appraisal Institute (MAI) and was an instructor of Real Estate Appraisal at Fort Lauderdale University. George was also an expert witness in circuit courts of Broward and Palm Beach Counties in eminent domain. He received his MAI designation in 1988. In the final years of his career, George owned his own company, George A. Trask & Associates, Inc. before he retired in 2014.

George loved being around his friends and family. He enjoyed sharing personal stories and having in-depth conversations with everyone he met. He was referred to by many of his friends as “Dancing George” and was known for his big, bright smile. George loved going to Bru’s Room for all the Ohio State football games. He was their biggest fan and was known for handing out Buckeye nuts to people who crossed his path. George also had a heart for animals, specifically dogs, and enjoyed dog walking and dog sitting for people.

George is survived by his family that adores him: wife Cookie and daughter Dawn Trask, his sister Margo Arndt (Brad) and brothers Chuck Trask (Kaaren), Daniel Trask (Barbara), Warren Trask. His mother-in-law Edith Sturgill and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 17th at 2:00 P.M in the clubhouse of The Meadows of Crystal Lake in Deerfield Beach 2300 SW 17 Circle, Deerfield Beach. A reception will immediately follow where music and food will be provided. Wear your dancing shoes because it’s going to be a party! The dress attire is casual. We encourage you to wear Ohio State apparel / colors (scarlet (red) and gray) or Navy apparel / colors.
