George's obituary
George “Lee” Linwood Shipp, 90, of Norfolk, Virginia and retired in Goshen Virginia.
Went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, he was the son of the late Ruby Shipp Gray and William Thomas Gray. He Graduated from Maury High School.
He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1949 and later transitioned to NARF Naval Air Station, Norfolk. during which time he went through the apprentice programs as an aircraft electrician and mechanic. Eventually becoming the senior civil engineer of planning and estimating. George was also involved in multiple projects for the A-1's, Tomcats, E2 Hawkeye, etc. from the 1950’s-1985 when he finally retired.
George was a member of the Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church and most recently a member of the Goshen Pentecostal Church, VA. Throughout George’s life, he had any titles (Lee, Uncle Lee & Sweetie), but mostly Grandpa/Papa to all his grandkids.
George’s touched so many lives from his time in different organizations church, Royal Rangers, being part of the Mason's with Norview lodge and participating in hunt clubs with family and friends.
He was a wonderful husband of 60 years and a devoted family man. George loved the outdoors and mountains so much, he bought his own slice of heaven on earth in the mountains with his wife to relax with God and his creations.
Mostly he was known for being a great soul, he was our firm and stern when it was needed, but mostly our loving and caring Father. He enjoyed working with his hands building toys, model airplanes and flying them, building canoes and boats, fishing, hunting, and shooting targets, camping and the mountains, and spending time outdoors. He worked with his stepdad Tommy on cars and enjoyed drag racing in the 50s and 60’s. He loved watching John Wayne and Cowboy movies and Elvis Presley.
There wasn’t a day that went by where he wanted to miss out on being with his family and friends. He didn’t want to miss a minute of spending time with his kids and grandchildren and being a big part of their lives. He loved to spend time watching our athletic sports games, piano recitals, bike races, and having Nerf Gun fights.
Survivors include his loving wife, Minnie W. Shipp of 60 years; his loving children Steven Shipp (Jennifer), Michael Shipp (Iesha), Catherine Sharpley (Thomas), George T. Davis, Eric Ewell; his grandchildren Madison, Lilianna, Natalie, Jack Shipp; Arianna, Elijah Shipp; Sarah, Matthew, Thomas; Ryan Davis (Pamela), Jessica (Edward), Jessie (Steve), Jerimiah (Patricia), Jacob; his great grandchildren Wade, Reagan, Rachel, Jordan, Tyler, Edward, Lauralai, Trey, Jasey, Ada, Nya, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends whom he loved deeply.
Friends and Family will be welcomed to view Mr. Shipp from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday 4th, at Holloman & Brown Funeral Home at 8464 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk.
The Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday 5th, at Holloman & Brown Funeral Home at 8464 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk. Burial Services will be held immediately after at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street in Norfolk.
