Reflection of Life

George Powell Jr. was born on June 26, 1926, in Blytheville, Arkansas. He was the son of (Berther Weeks)Bertha Weeks-Powell and George Washington Powell Sr. (G.W. Powell) (Reverend George Washington Powell Sr.) who ministered in Aberdeen, Mississippi.

George was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Faust Band Saw Mill Inc. and for over a decade he worked as a foreman for Riceland and as a truck driver. George was an Ordained Deacon at Allen Temple Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gospel music, and his CB radio. George enjoyed long phone conversations, in addition to traveling and visiting friends and family.

George Powell Jr. is preceded in death by his loving wife Maggie Powell; his oldest daughter (Birtha Powell)Bertha Powell-Washington - Nov 17, 1950-Sept 26, 1982 and his son Robert Lee Powell Nov 13, 1951- Oct 27, 1977.

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life sons: Earnest Powell (Theresa) of Laredo, Texas, John Otis Powell Sr. of Pensacola, Florida, Don Neal Powell(Beverly) of Pensacola, Florida and Willie James Powell of Pensacola, Florida; daughters Georgia Mae Powell-Thomas (Henderson) of Chicago, IL and Leona Powell-Smith(Perry) of Matteson, IL; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends to mourn his passing.
