George's obituary

George Henry O’Neill, 82, died peacefully in Weslaco Texas on January 22nd, 2023. He was born on August 3, 1940 to Charles and Georgina O’Neill in Red Wing, MN. He graduated from Goodhue High School and after graduation enlisted in the Marines. He married Sue Babel in August of 1963 and had four children. George worked for more than 20 years at Meyers Industry and while working there, bought Hay Creek Valley Campground in 1977. One of his proudest achievements was how much he was able to build up the campground and bar business. Many of his customers and campers became great friends. George was a member of Haycreek Valley Saddle Club and participated in golf and pool league. He loved photography and to travel.   One of the highlights of his travels was going to Europe with his son, Pat. George’s winter travels with his camper lead him to Westlico Texas where he decided to buy a part model and spend half of each of his remaining years. After a bad leg injury we thought George was in no shape to return to Texas, but if George was anything, he was stubborn and determined and got back to spend his last few months in a place he loved. George is survived by his brothers Harvey (Sandy) O’Neill, Howard (Don) O’Neill, Ruth (Gerry) Peterson, and Rose (Bob) Cyert; children, Michele O’Neill, Jennifer (Bruce) Carlson, Patrick (Angie) O’Neill, Trung (Loan To) Duong; nine grandchildren, Brittney, Katie, Travis, Tim, Chase, Lex, Keegan, Roman and Ryan and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy O’Neill. A celebration of life will be held from 11am-2pm on August 20th at Haycreek Valley Campground Pavilion. Please come share your stories of George.
