George's obituary
It is with sorrowful hearts that we announce the passing of George Edward Ollinger III, of Grant, Florida. He passed away on February 26, 2025 at the age of 74.
George was born on September 5th, 1951, in Naha, Okinawa to Yoshiko Tonaki Ollinger and George Edward Ollinger II. He graduated with honors from UCLA for his BA and completed his Juris Doctor degree at the University of Detroit Law School. He worked as a lawyer for over 40 years, fiercely defending the rights of those he represented.
George is survived by his children, Joseph Ollinger and Caitlin Ollinger; his sister, Betty Gould; and his former wife and best friend, Bonnie Ollinger. He is preceded in death by his siblings Leah Barker, Noviko Peterson, and John Ollinger.
Growing up in Okinawa, Japan, George was raised immersed in both his mother’s Okinawan culture and his father’s American culture. He excelled at high school football, which often won him awards. When he was 17, his family moved to Eugene, Oregon, where he finished high school. George relished his college years in California and was proud of his education from UCLA. After finishing law school in Detroit, he married his wife, Bonnie. He practiced law in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from 1976-1988, and then moved to Grant, Florida with their two children, where he continued his legal practice while raising a family. He and Bonnie separated amicably in 2014 and remained close friends. He found true love again with his sweetheart, Mige Conley, in 2017, who passed away tragically in 2021. George moved to Las Vegas, Nevada for the last two years of his life, where he stayed in close contact with his family in spite of the distance.
George was a passionsate and accomplished person. He had a love for playing golf, which he shared with his son, Joe. George also enjoyed creative writing, a passion which both of his children also share- And he possessed great talent for both of these hobbies. George also loved to travel and prioritized exposing his children to other cultures- taking his family on adventurous trips to places like the United Kingdom, Spain, Okinawa, China, Morocco, and Mexico.
George was a devoted father, husband, and friend. George’s work as a lawyer was more than his profession: It defined his character. The law was his calling in life, and his fierce sense of advocacy extended into all of his relationships. There is nothing George wouldn’t do to protect the ones he loved. If he knew a loved one was in trouble, he would drop everything to show up for them immediately.
George will be remembered with love every day. A memorial will be held remotely at a date to be announced and streamed via Zoom. We ask that all who knew George leave a comment or memory on this page if you feel called to do so.
