Asked what I learned from George . . . When in Wenatchee, he had minimal possessions, what he did have was a small blanket/throw in which there was a slit in the middle, turning that throw into a poncho.  Brilliant! To this day. 47 years later, every throw I've ever had has a slit in the middle, and becomes my poncho as needed. My daughter has had to explain, more than once, to her friends, why there is a hole in the blanket. And we laugh.
