George's obituary
George Warren Gould, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024, with his beautiful bride of 52 years by his side. Born in 1942 to George Gould and Sally Gould (Murbach), Warren's journey was one of love, laughter, and cherished moments.
Warren's childhood was rooted in Adrian, Michigan, where he blossomed into a remarkable individual. Graduating from Adrian High School in 1960, he showcased his athletic prowess, particularly in track and field, where he set school records in high and low hurdles. His dedication led him to win the regional championship and compete in the state finals during his senior year. Continuing his education at Michigan State University, he briefly pursued his studies before answering the call to serve his country.
Enlisting with the United States Navy, Warren served as an electrician aboard the USS Frontier. Following an honorable discharge in 1965, he returned to MSU, earning a BA in Business Administration and competing on the track team. It was there that he met the love of his life, Patricia Schwartz, and they were united in marriage in 1971.
Family was at the core of Warren's being. He was a devoted father to Beth (Mike) Reed and Garett Gould (Julie), and a cherished grandfather, affectionately known as Brampy, to Austin Reed, Brett Reed, Trevor Reed, Drew Reed, and Blake Gould. He shared a special bond with his sister, Sally Gould (Eastman), and was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Warren was an unwavering supporter of his family, rarely missing any of his children's or grandchildren's sporting events. He often remarked that a dad's only job was to be there and record it, and as he grew older, he proudly declared that a grandfather's only job was to be there and brag about it. His fandom extended beyond his own family; he would cheer on others in the community and attend their events. Additionally, he generously volunteered his time to coach middle schoolers in track, inspiring young athletes to reach their full potential.
Throughout his life, Warren touched countless hearts and built enduring relationships. His career in the real estate industry spanned over 45 years, including 18 years as Executive Officer of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Board of REALTORS, and later as a RE/MAX broker/owner alongside Patricia. As a convivial neighbor in his Troy home area, he brought camaraderie and a warm smile wherever he went. His gregarious nature was marked by his quick wit and playful humor. His jokes and stories will live on, passed down through generations, cherished and reused, bringing smiles and laughter to those who remember his infectious spirit.
Family and friends are invited to honor Warren's life at the First Congregational Church of Royal Oak, 1314 Northwood Blvd, Royal Oak, MI 48073, on Friday, March 15, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 am. A luncheon will be held in the social hall onsite following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association and The Salvation Army, in Warren's memory. Though he may be gone from our sight, Warren's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
