George's obituary
George Britton Sr. of St.Petersburg, Florida, passed away surrounded by family and friends on December 13, 2022.
He was born December, 1952 in Kingston, Jamaica, to George Britton and Mirelda Bruff.
George attended the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST) in Kingston, Jamaica, where he studied Electrical Technology.
He met his wife, Vilma Nembhard, while a member of Sing Out Jamaica, they married in December, 1974. In the following years, he joined the Kingston Fire department and started his own business, which he ran for most of his adult life.
In December of 1985 George, Vilma, and his three sons emigrated to the U.S., moving both home and business and establishing a home base in St. Petersburg where he remained until his death.
George was a mentor to countless young men who showed any interest in the technical fields. He was eager to help anyone who wanted to better themselves, concentrating on hard work and discipline. He was convinced that they could achieve success. He had a keen interest in musical equipment and the revolutionary reggae music of his youth to the extent that, even past the age of 60, he was building and tinkering in his free time.
George was generous, loved by his large family and community, and found great delight in his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Vilma; his children, George, Georgia and Alexander; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, his sister Joan and his brother Keith. He is predeceased by his brother Byron and his son Martin.
Memorial services are scheduled for December 28, 2022, at 1:30pm at 5th Avenue Baptist Church.
