George's obituary

George Gary Boyce, age 77, passed away on March 25, 2026, at his home in Port Richey, Florida.

George was born on October 16, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio, to George Arthur Boyce and Beatrice (Butcher) Boyce. He was raised in Fairmont, West Virginia, a place he always considered home.

George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. During his service he was stationed in Okinawa, Vietnam, and Taiwan, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic specializing in propeller-driven and turboprop aircraft engines. His military honors included the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following his military service, George returned to West Virginia where he worked as a coal miner at the Martinka Mine in Fairmont. He later worked as an electrician at the Health Sciences Center in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he remained until his retirement.

George enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially loved tennis, hunting, playing cards, and traveling with his family. Many of his happiest memories were made on family trips to the beach, camping adventures, and sightseeing throughout the beautiful mountains of West Virginia.

Affectionately known by family as “Safety George,” he was known for always looking out for those around him. His practical nature and protective instincts were part of how he showed his love for family and friends.

George also had a passion for preserving memories. In the 1980s he purchased a camcorder, and he spent countless hours filming home movies so that special moments with family would always be remembered.

George is survived by his wife, Arcy G. Snodgrass Boyce, and her children and grandchildren all of Fairmont, West Virginia.

He is also survived by his children: Gary Starn (Bunny) of Fairmont, West Virginia; Bryan Wilder (Andrea) of Whitehouse, Ohio; and Christy Struckhoff (Jesse) of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Additional survivors include his siblings, Diane Stripple and Kathy (Claude) Stewart; his grandchildren Jessica Dobson, Justin Starn, Alec Wilder, Landon Wilder, Rachel Wilder, Zoey Struckhoff, and Ralph Struckhoff; as well as eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Arthur and Beatrice Boyce, and his first wife, Ruth Mae Boyce.

George will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved and provided for his family.

Services will be announced at a future date.
